Power BI Engineer (Remote)

GovCIO is currently looking for a detail-oriented and innovative Power BI Engineer (Remote) to design, develop, and maintain data-driven dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights across the organization. The ideal candidate has strong experience in data visualization, modeling, and report optimization using Microsoft Power BI tools. This position is fully remote, located in the United States. 

• Design and build Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations tailored to business requirements. 
• Generates Ad-Hoc PBI Reports. 
• Develop and optimize data models, DAX calculations, and Power Query transformations. 
• Connect to various data sources (SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, Azure, etc.) and ensure data refreshes are configured and reliable. 
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting needs, define KPIs, and ensure clarity and usability of dashboards. 
• Ensure consistency, accuracy, and performance of datasets through data validation, optimization, and security controls (e.g., Row-Level Security). 
• Work with the data engineering team to identify and troubleshoot data quality, performance, and integration issues. 
• Maintain and document Power BI assets, including data models, queries, and version history. 
• Stay current with Power BI updates, features, and best practices to continuously improve report performance and user experience. 
• Continuously tunes environment to optimize performance 
• Supports user administration for role-based security in accordance with enterprise user security guidelines.  
• Performs upgrades as needed to incorporate new features and assure high levels of security and support. 

Required Skills and Experience 

• Bachelor's with 12+ years (or commensurate experience). 
• Proficient in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, and Power Query (M). 
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational and dimensional data models.
• Experience working with enterprise data sources and integrating data from multiple platforms. 
• Familiarity with Power BI Gateway, workspace roles, and deployment best practices. 
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for clean, user-friendly design.
• Effective communication and documentation skills to support cross-functional collaboration.
