Overview

The NEDIIS Program under VA Connectivity and Collaboration Services/Core Network Engineering Division assists and collaborates with VA personnel to Engineer and Operate Network solutions that simplify and modernize the VA’s IT network infrastructure to sustain delivery of Veterans’ services.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a qualified candidate to work with the Veterans Administration's Connectivity and Collaboration Services/Core Network Engineering team. The selected individual will serve as a member of a team that provides Tier4 architecture design for new technologies and escalation support when issues arise.  Also, Enterprise level recommendations based on WAN evaluations, capacity projections, and application usage, to VA senior leadership on enterprise communications

  • 12+ years’ experience in a large enterprise environment involving network architecture and management
  • Experience with Cisco router and switch administration
  • Experience with Juniper and Fortigate SD WAN solutions
  • Understanding and knowledge of Next Generation Firewall technology such as Palo Alto and Juniper SRX
  • Understanding capacity management/planning techniques and processes
  • An in-depth knowledge/understanding of carrier circuits to include up to 100 gig Ethernet Transport Services.
  • Multi-address family BGP, OSPF, EIGRP knowledge is a must
  • Working knowledge of IPv6
  • Ability to interact with executive level Veterans Administrative staff
  • Desire to learn new technologies as they emerge
  • Ability to work across and manage multiple projects; provide written/verbal status updates on each project on a regular basis to the team leader, Program Manager and customer
  • Knowledge and understanding of Network management and application analysis tools is required (NetScout, Riverbed AppResponse/NetProfiler, SL1, Infoblox, Logic Monitor, Wireshark, LiveNX)
  • Make architecture recommendations to support the growing needs of the VA
  • Test the recommendations for enterprise compatibility in the state-of-the-art network design lab
  • Use existing Network Management tools to provide capacity management/utilization reports
  • Provide on-call escalation support if an issue arises that cannot be rectified by the network operations team
  • Write white papers on new technology uses in the VA and how it will help support the mission of the VA

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors with 12+ years’ experience in a large enterprise environment involving network architecture and management
  • Miscellaneous: Duties may require traveling, being on call periodically, and occasionally working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Background Investigation: Must be able to pass a government Tier 4 High Background Investigation


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of Networking
  • Strong understanding of Cisco CLI (IOS/XE/NX-OS)
  • Certifications: Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet preferred

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Posted Salary Range

USD $108,310.00 - USD $173,290.00 /Yr.
