Telecommunications Technician

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Telecommunications Technician to provide support at SOUTHCOM in Doral, FL.

SOUTHCOM systems are installed at various locations such as auditoriums, conference rooms, executive suites, team rooms, mobile VTC carts, portable AV systems, and desktop VTC systems. These systems are networked together with dedicated network switches, bridges, and cabling (Back End) and centrally controlled using specialized VTC/IPTV/AV Software, Hardware, and control appliances (Front End). The team provides video teleconferencing (VTC), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and audiovisual (AV) installation and maintenance support for multiple TRADOC locations.

• Install, maintain, and repair telecommunications equipment and systems, ensuring reliable communication.
• Install and configure network devices, cabling, and telecom equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot network issues, and replace faulty components.
• Use network monitoring tools, analyze performance data, and maintain records of activities.
• Create network diagrams and documentation and prepare reports on network performance and troubleshooting efforts.
• Receive guidance and direction from more senior staff.
  
  

High School with 3 - 6 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

• HS diploma and 3+ years of relevant Telecom Technician experience.
  • A candidate holding a relevant bachelor's degree may be granted 2 years' experience credit for that extra education.
• They possess an understanding of voice, data, and video networks, working independently and in teams.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
• Experience with various telecommunications technologies, including VoIP, VPN, and wireless networking.
• Proven experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining telecom equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, VoIP phones, video conferencing systems).
• Hands-on experience with cabling installation and termination (copper and fiber optic).
• Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, outages, and performance problems.
• Solid understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, OSI model, network topologies)..

Experience in creating and updating network diagrams and documentation.

• Clearance Required: Secret

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience with specific telecom technologies (e.g., SD-WAN, MPLS, wireless networks).

• Basic scripting or programming skills for automating telecom tasks.
• Experience with basic project management principles and methodologies.
• CompTIA Network+ or A+. BICSI certifications (e.g., RCDD, ITS Technician). Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Cisco, Avaya).
