GovCIO is currently hiring for a Technical Writer & Visual Communications specialist to support the Digital Health Office, translating complex technical concepts into clear, compelling written and visual content. This role blends traditional technical writing with strategic communications, storytelling, and graphic design to support both internal and external audiences.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can partner with engineers, product managers, and leadership to create documentation, presentations, infographics, and other visual assets that improve understanding, adoption, and engagement.
Writes, rewrites, and/or edits technical documents related to the software development lifecycle and supporting artifacts within our Confluence space to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences, including developers and product managers. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, product managers and technical stakeholders. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.
Develop clear, concise communications for diverse audiences (technical, executive, and non-technical)
Support internal communications such as:
Program updates
Executive briefings
Change management communications
Collaborate with stakeholders to shape messaging and narrative structure
Design and produce visual assets to support written content, including:
Infographics
Diagrams and process flows
Slide decks and executive presentations
One-pagers and fact sheets
Ensure visual consistency with brand and accessibility standards
Use graphics to simplify complex workflows, architectures, and data
Partner with subject matter experts to gather requirements and validate content
Apply editorial best practices, including version control and peer review
Continuously improve documentation based on feedback and user needs
Bachelor's with 8+ years (or commensurate experience)
Required Skills and Experience

Documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, Markdown, Word)
Design and presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, Lucidchart, Miro)
Strong storytelling, layout, and visual hierarchy skills
Knowledge of accessibility and plain-language standards

Posted Pay Range
The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process.
