GovCIO is currently hiring for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to with strong backend experience to join a team partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs to enhance Veteran-facing digital financial management tools by designing, developing, testing, and deploying new features and improvements to help Veterans and their families avoid, understand, manage, and resolve VA debts through self-service solutions. This position is fully remote within the United States.
While this role will primarily support backend development, our team looks for someone interested in and capable of working across the tech stack, and in using both front and back end languages and frameworks. Our ideal candidate is patient, curious, proactive, and positive; someone who understands the large impact that even small changes can have on end users, someone able to learn a complex landscape and innovate, someone who constantly seizes opportunities to refine, and someone who is dedicated to accessibility and championing the impact of our work. Bachelor's with 8+ years (or commensurate experience)

Experience with Sidekiq and Redis
Experience with the latest React features and ecosystem (hooks, context API)
Familiarity with monitoring tools, especially Datadog
Experience with continuous integration/deployment systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
Familiarity with the US Web Design System
Familiarity with AI development tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude-Code)
Experience developing knowledge of complex domains and systems
Ability to work across multiple applications, components, languages, and frameworks
Experience working in a cross-functional team (research, design, engineering, product)
Contributions to open-source projects
